  • Ive heard it said before and it really does look like Mac is playing ping pong out there. such subtle strokes and so deceptive as to where the ball is going to go. Later in Macs career he often had to face stronger, faster, taller, harder hitting and obviously younger opponents and it was always fun for me to watch Mac win points by using placement and ''slight of hand'' techniques. Out witting his opponents with low strong Dunlop raquet of his. Love it!!

  • this was played at Horseshoe Bend CC in Roswell, GA.

  • Man, thank you so much for posting !

Although a die-hard Mcenroe fan, I didn't have any memories of this game (probably because it wasn't braodcasted in France where I live...).

And that last point from Mac is truly amazing : taking the ball on the rise with such unnoticeable effort and giving it such speed and yet being so precise, this was part of his genius...

My, although being in the time of "greatest players of history", I can't believe how boring tennis has turned out...

  • @sharpasaneraser

    So true !

I can't believe that after all these years, with all the technology HD, 16/9 TV ,3 D and so on, the TV industry still hasn't got it !!!

You catch so much more with those backcourt perspectives : speed, spin, moves...

  • the ground level is the best perspective from which to watch a pro tennis match. you are really able to perceive just how good pros are technically and otherwise. i hate the aerial perspective so pervasive in today's tennis.

    thanks for the clip

  • Good post. A (still) capable McEnroe vs Edberg in his prime. Brilliant example to anyone interested in playing Tennis

  • Excellent. I played on clay yesterday, very badly I might add :)

  • thank u thank u thank u thank u

  • omg i totally remember this match!! thx so much!! (i think there was another awesome crosscourt backhand volley winnery mac did too)
