This year, the biggest bore occurred on 18th August, the Lunar calendar. Video clip was recorded from CCTV news (25/09/2010).

  • The tidal bore is a natural phenomenon. It is not even unique to Qiantang River, but occurs in many rivers around the world, albeit not as famous. In fact, 200 years ago, Scott Russell discovered soliton (a technical term in Physics) water waves in the Union Canal in Scotland. He called it "waves of translation". What he referred to was actually tidal bore.
