Steve Bartman is NOT at fault for the Chicago Cubs blowing the NLCS against the Marlins. He should be celebrated for the fan he is. Dane Placko tells the story of how this game unfolded
A Scene no Marlins fan will ever forget either... That Bartman play is still the funniest event in Cubs history... The lovable losers continue adding to that lore.
Oh, and nobody finds it funny that Bartman sat in seat number 013? lol
Is it even worth analyzing if it was "his fault" that the Cubs lost that night? They lost 8-3! That whole incident was obnoxious, and drunk fans are the equivalent of asshole jocks in high school.
Most Cubs fans just want someone to blame. I saw an interview once of the guy sitting near Bartman and he said if Bartman wouldn't have touched it he probably would have. Plus ya know it was Bartman's fault that the Cubs gave up 8 runs in one inning and blew a 5-3 lead in game 7.
I was at the game in the upper deck stands on towards the third base side. I had a decent view of the play and even at the time I felt that it wasn't his fault, but knew he would be perceived as "the goat". I felt terrible for him immediately. That game should really be known as "The Alex Gonzalez Booted a Taylor Made Double Play Ball to Get Us Out of the Inning Game".
3-0 before...mentally crumbled...LETS GO CUBBIES!!!
