Those Engine size's I was refering to were for a Type 1 Engine. I personally don't like putting T4's into Beetles because they are heavier (weight distribution can change) and parts can be hard to find sometimes, also you can get the same or more horsepower & torque from a T1 for cheaper.. food for thought! T4's in Beetles do go well though. Good Luck with your build.

thanks, 11 to 1 would be crazy!, me and my dad are building a street engine for are L beetle, its a type IV kombi engine out of a vanagon, apparently there indistructable in a beetle, were going to be buying a conversion kit so it uses a doghouse cooler, weve finally decided to get some real power!

I have seen Street Engines with 11.0 to 1 compression, but yes, it can be safer to run a 2110, 2332, 2387 or 2443 engine.. if youv'e got the money go the 90mm crank and do a 2498cc or 2918cc with 4" Bore.. Money is usually the limit in the end! Cheers for your comments! ;-)

alright, i guess if you wanted to play safe, to get more power you could just bore it out to 2446cc or so without stroking it

You have to remember that standard VW Engines only have 7.5 to 1 (Early only had 6.5) compression, so this one at 9.5 to 1 isn't that low for a daily driver. Petrol here isn't that bad but we did have an engine that destroyed itself after the driver drove for a long time with the engine detonating. At the same time around New Zealand several engine reconditioners were reporting the same problems of detonation damage, result of bad batch of fuel. Thanks.
What brand are those valve covers? Nice! Where can I buy them?
