This is what happens when you try to give Collies a toy to reduce their barking, so you can have a lil' peace and quiet. ;)

  • will someone please tell me how much smooth collies shed???

  • Hi dadeyes.

I have 2 and they shed extensively. They remind me of Pig Pen, with their lil' cloud of hair that follows behind them. On the plus side it's a softer type hair so it doesn't embed itself into fabric, so you can easily clean it up with a vacuum. On the downside though, since it's float-y, it can get up onto the walls and tops of furniture.

  • i read that they shed a lot twice a year and only moderately during the rest of the year? is that true?

  • I think where you live may influence that. I live in Texas and we have very short winters and the temps can bounce around drastically during that time. So I think I get fairly high shedding year round. Course I did have low shedding Cairn Terriers before I got Collies, so that may bias my view.

At the beginning of summer, there is a definite increase in the shedding. I use a shedding brush to help get it off the dogs fore it hits the floor and that does help a bit.

  • Oops sorry about they typo on your name. No edit function or I'd fix it.

  • So cute!!!!! Love the ending!!!

  • what a beautiful smooth collie!!

  • @spaquinable My Smooth Collie PURE- well when I played this video he went nuts over the sound of the squeaking. But yeah, I just wanted to say they really ARE SMART... my collie uses it for advantages...

He tries to open doors (Often succeeds)

And- He will often act like a human. Or at least tries...

  • @jadeyes914 I have a Smooth Collie Mix. He sheds moderately 2x/year. A metal "Fur Buster" type brush works well. I live in the DEEP south. He sheds more when I exercise him in the heat. It's not bad, though. It's easy to keep up with.

  • Haha! Poor baby; he wants his toy back! :-) I've got a Smooth Collie mix. He LOVES his toys just like this fella! He doesn't bark much, but he will "sing" (howl) on command. They are SUCH beautiful and SMART dogs!

  • I have a smoothie - he sheds profusely and likes the combo of barking tons and eviscerating his toys. He also thinks he's 15 lbs. But I love that dog to pieces!

  • the dog ate a mouse that was on crack and blocked his mouth with a ball so the mouse couldn't escape.....don't ask me where I come up with this stuff

  • Funny.

  • My smooth had a reallyt bad shed at 18months but doesnt shed much apart from once a year.

That is exactly what my smooth does though, with the toy...she also presses it with her nose hehehe

  • Isn't that the "Bad Cuz" toy, friend of the most beloved Squeaky Chicken?
