Our 1964 cruise on board the Straat Banka - a freighter of the Royal Interocean Lines with limited passenger accommodation - took us from Kobe to Hongkong, Manila and Singapore. We disembarked at Port Swettenham (now called Port Klang), the port of Kuala Lumpur, where my friend Dolf Knul was waiting for us at the dockside. Dolf, the KL branch manager of Chase Manhattan Bank, showed us around KL with its old and modern architecture, and then took us to the airport for the flight to our next stop, Penang.
