If you like fishing, apparently they make good bait. But if you want to keep them as pets they eat decomposing fruit. I feed mine rotting strawberries =D

Alright, i'm a bio major and i had never seen anything like that before. i was convinced that it was an alien. but i did some research and i believe they are Dronefly larvae. what ever became of them?

yeah they are dronefly larvae, you're right. actually, i posted it as the comment right after this one. they never became drone flies, even though i kept feeding them for a couple of weeks. i was not allowed to keep them in the house by order of my girlfriend, and the jar overheated outside and they died. the mosquito larvae certainly became mosquitos though. I'm also a bio major, and yes, was also convinced that they were alien :) thanks for looking into what they were!
