  • t's a cloud... Just sitting there...

  • @NocturnaLucid I'm sure the farmers that saw a giant tornado churning towards their property had the same reaction: "bah, just a cloud." ;)

  • msenn, were you north of south of I-90. Which direction was this looking, north?

  • @minnesotahusker I was literally two blocks north of I-90 near a gas station off Hwy 13, looking southwest as the tornado moved northeast.

  • This is great location footage. I have been going through the damage area the last week or so taking pictures and video now a little more than a year later and this video really helps me visualize what I have been seeing more.

  • y dont i here the sisrens going off? but i here thunder and liting!

  • Amazing video! I can see a hundred tornado videos, but it's always more emotional when they show tornadoes here in MN. We don't get too many wedges or stovepipes in this state. I think, "wow, cool" when I see most videos like this, but I think about the people more when they're this close to home. Thanks for posting!

  • @meaninglesscog It was an AM station, yes.

  • @xSakuraBanax that lightning strike wasn't immediately next to my car, but it was as intense as I've ever seen. You'll notice the camera shake when the thunder report got to me. One other thing I didn't notice until after reviewing this video at home was that the local radio station completely faded to static just seconds before the lightning. I suspect it's not a coincidence, but maybe a meteorologist out there could post their opinion?

  • @hockeyham I think your explanation is probably correct...thanks. I do remember that a 1986 tornado in the Twin Cities was the first to prove twisters generate strong radio signals (knocking the KARE-11 helicopter's signal off the air), so I wondered if something similar wasn't going on here, but it could very well just be a simple power outage.

  • At 1:42 you see a power flash, right about when the station starts to go off the air. My guess is that the power was cut, either to the station, or the microwave link between the station and the transmitter if the station and transmitter were in separate locations.

  • @msenn Was it an AM station? That's the way I can tell when a storm is on the way because it seems that AM stations always react with static to lightning.
