4/7 Rolando Villazón - What Makes a Great Tenor?
BBC Four
2.06.2010
The great tenor Rolando Villazon takes us inside the world of the sexiest and most risky of all operatic voices. It's a journey which includes some of the great names of the past, such as Caruso and Lanza, and some of the brightest stars performing today, like Domingo, Alagna and Florez. We hear how they tackle their most famous roles and what the risks and rewards are.

  • how can people think opera is for old guys i rather lisent to this to J-z over and over this are real artists

  • @spgtenor thank you!

  • @TheU2BigO - It's La Boheme. Rodolfo says "Non sono in vena" which means, " I'm not in the mood" (he's a writer, and can't feel the inspiration) and then there's a knock at the door. This is when he sings Che Gelida Manina to Mimi. Hope that helps.

  • can anyone tell me whats the operas called @ 2:16? please and thank you

  • Pavoratti was one like the male callas...so much emotion in his voice!

  • it is interesting to hear kaufmans irish accent.

some tenors sing with the same tonal aspects as the speaking voice and some make something ??? with the operatic singing voice. nice "toi".

  • From the first note Kaufmann sounds like a superb Heldentenor. Not a surprise he did it big time singing Siegmund at Met this year (2011).
