Having said that, the second half of this movement, with an uncharacteristically quiet ending for a French symphony, is quite beautiful. Pity the audience couldn't hold back for a few moments with their applause...

Meh. Far too much showing off, not enough profundity. Cochereau was not the greatest of the Parisian titulaires - Messiaen might take ten times as long to play four notes, but every one said ten times more than everything Cochereau said in the same time.

je suis d'accord sur tout, je suis plus mélomane qu'organiste et cochereau est ma référence absolue... cet homme avait était l'alchimiste de l'orgue et transformait le plomb et l'étain en or ! j'ai aussi joué a notre dame une fois... c'est bouleversant, on crois a chaque accord que l'orgue va pulvériser la tribune avec cette puissance de feu...

I never knew that the organ at that concert hall can sound soo amazing!
i was studying there for 3 and a half years, but i never heard it played this well!!!

Génial!!!! j'aime vraiment ça façon de détourner le thème et quel maitrise, on s'en remet difficilement.

Absolument génial. LE Maitre absolu.
Romantisme, lyrisme, couleurs, oppositions, reliefs, tout y est, jusqu'à ce langage harmonique si particulier qui était SA signature.
J'au eu l'occasion de faire étudier certaines impros de Cochereau à mes élèves en écriture, lorsque j'enseignais au CNR de Rennes. Ils en sont restés totalement bouleversés...
Enfin, j'ai joué deux fois à Notre Dame de Paris. Putain ce shoot aux décibels !
