9 April 2011. 3 Friends dive to The USS Emmons located off the coast of Kouri-Jima, Okinawa, Japan.
The Emmons was sunk on April 7 1945 by 96 5" rounds of AA common. Recovery attempts were not successfull and the choice was made to scuttle the ship before it could drift into enemy held Motobu Peninsula. The USS Ellyson was given the task and carried it out in the early morning hours of April 7. The Emmons WAS NOT sunk by enemy kamikaze.
