To be a World Champion you must be the best in all known to that moment. But you must be also an inventor. You must contribute to the game growth...
Anyone of you who watched the 3th game may be surprisez today but Anand and Kramnik moved in the same line today. And the result of the game was also the same - another win for the Indian!
Anand used his novelty that he introduced in Slav Defence — a system in which the player playing with black pieces gets to develop his queen well and wins a pawn without compromising his position. Vishwanatan used this system very well and also introduced a new move that gave him a slight advantage. Though Kramnik tried to fight back, he played wrong moves that weakened his defence.
After today 5th round the score is 3,5 to 1,5 for Anand.

  • I have no idea how such music is suitable for chess analysis?

  • The song you used is named dead stars! The song is great, but the title is not right for those players! They are living legends of chess!

  • I thought white was going to win

  • Anand was very well prepared by far better than Kramnik as we can see , thats all.At that level , it is important to surprise the opponent and to have an advantage in theorical preparation. I saw the conference in Chile made by Anand. It is incredible how he knew all the sequences in advance when he played the semi- slav variation in this game. Also, I read that he reconized the work made by the great GM Bent Larsen in this variation in the late 60`s.

  • yeah,now you are talking!

  • Also if he's younger. Kramnik has chronic rheumatism that's allways a handicap. At least in the long run. May be he wasn't as well prepared but he didn't improve since he beat Kasparow in 2000. Without Kasparow there was never a better GM as Anand! If Kasparow wouldn't exist Andand would have become world champion much earlier. Kramnik is good in theoretically positions but we all have seen what happens if he come into an open position with a tactical enforcer like Anand.

  • he's not ill,he didn't play with a handicap. he is younger than Anand and a strong grand master. his preparations for the match wasn't that big,i think he should have spent time on forming a new tactic because anand was obviously prepared for queen's gambit. that's why he lost.

  • But he's ill !!! It's very difficult to play on that level with such a handicap.
