This slideshow is a tribute to my Mom, Myra June Mouser.

She was born Myra June Hooker, on May 31,1924, on a little farm just outside of Prescott Arkansas.

Her Father, James Audie Hooker was killed by a neighbor in a dispute, in 1927, when she was just 3 years old.

Her Mother Clara died of a Heart Attack in Dec 1976, while I was at sea, in the North Atlantic on a Submarine. I was wondering why I only got 4 family grams from my wife that patrol, when we could recieve 5. The XO called me into his stateroom after we got back to Scotland, he had my missing Family Gram, and he told me my Grandmother had died almost two months previous. I threw a HUGE Mouser fit, and probably deserved a court martial, but the XO was such a nice guy, on a Submarine we are all family. He let me rant and rave. I cried and I cussed that poor man up one side and down the other. I was only 19, and as I look back on it, I'm glad they witheld this news from me. I now wish I hadn't thrown such a fit, but Mr Pestorius never held it against me. I know he sensed my need to vent my frustration. He recommended me for the overhaul crew. Mr Pestorius, I now realize you were just looking out for me. You were one of the best Commanders I ever knew, and one of the best men I ever met, wherever you are, I'm sorry. And thanks for not sending me to prison, because my reaction that day probably warranted it. You sparked my interest in higher education/physics wich led me to where I am today.

In November of 1943 Mom was working as a waitress at the Bus Depot in Prescott Arkansas when she met a handsome young sailor by the name of Olen Mouser, who was home on leave from the War.. Three days later they were married. Us Mouser men are kind of irresistible. ha ha. She had a Marine waiting in the back of the depot waiting to take her out on a date that day, but instead snuck out with Dad, and the rest is history.

Dad always used to love to tell the story how his wife was a "Hooker" untill the day he married her. .. Ha Ha. This was usually done in a crowded restaurant... ha ha....

After the war, Mom and Dad moved to Oregon, first to the Willamette Valley, and later to Central Oregon, where they raised 7 kids. Mom was a homemaker, and was a loving Mother. I was the youngest child for over 10 years, and a person could not ask for a better childhood than what I had. Thanks Mom.

She had many hobbies over the years, Sewing, Decapage, Pottery, Gardening. She had her own pottery kiln, and produced some amazing items.
She never got her drivers license, yet she drove several cars right into the ground.

She died of Heart Disease on Jan 23, 1994.

I'm sorry your last days were so difficult Mom, and I wish now I would have done more to help Nellie with your condition. I wish I could turn back the clock and do it over.
Nellie was worn down, and I should have taken charge, I'm sorry.

I Miss You Mom,
Your Loving Son,
Hay-Seed

(Mom used to call me in for supper using this phrase, my name is Sid, so she would yell HEY SEED, it was our own private little joke)

All 3 of Moms Brothers wrote a blank check to Uncle Sam during WW2. that was was good for up to and including thier own life.

Chester was in the Army, and was in Germany fighting, and had some great war stories. He witnessed some of the Concentration Camp Atrocities. His main job after the Germans surrendered was to run machines that purified their water as I recall. He returned to Prescott, and was a carpenter, and he later bought the largest Hotel in town and was a succesful businessman. He and Winniebell had 4 kids, who I never got a chance to know, they are all scattered around the country and are succesful.

Lester was in the Navy. He was a first class Boatswains mate at wars end. He gave me a really nice boatswains whistle that he had made the very intricate braded lanyard for, and a leather belt that he had fashioned the belt buckle out of a regular navy issue spoon. and both of these items are among my most treasured items. He ended up in Union New Jersey, where he was a transportation specialist. He returned to Prescott after retirement. He and Anita had one daughter who still lives in the family home in Prescott.

Jim was in the Army, as a Cavalryman, and helped tremendously during the war effort. I cannot remember where he served. I only met him once in my life, and I admired him greatly. He ended up in New Mexico in the oil industry and was very succesful in what he did. He and Winnie had two beautiful daughters who still live in New Mexico, and are both doing great and are getting close to retirement.

youngest brother Billy was born and raised in Prescott. and still lives there he was a groceryman all his life.He and Vera had one son, who was a fine young man, who lost his life while trying to rescue a young girl. She lived, he unfortunately did not, and left this earth way too soon.

  • I'm not part of your family....But enjoyed the video much. I think it is important to know who you are, were you come from, and the sacrifice that others made for future generations be it big or small. Thanks for letting others see a part of your past.

  • I agree. Thanks so much for watching and commenting on my Moms video.

  • This video is, without a doubt, the single most important piece of information I have ever found on the internet in 14 years. I often am thinking of my Papaw, Chester Hooker, and so tonight I googled his name and WOW! Here he is along with Aud, Granny Clara and other relatives I know very little about! Most of the photos I've never seen! Hey Sid, thank you so very much for sharing! Im getting ready to watch it for a third time and am ecstatic right now. Unbelievable! Thank you internet and Sid

  • Thanks John,

I think that is one of the nicest comments I have ever had.

I met your Grandpa Chester Hooker on only 6 or 7 times in my life, but I thought the world of him.

He is missed by lots of folks, I am sure.

If I had a few more photos of Chester I would love to make a Video of his own. I will email you.

Thanks for commenting, give my regards to everyone.

By the way, I visited with your G G Aunt Lorene in Mt last July, she is 90 years young and doing great.

    Regards,

    Sid........
