Anyone who desires a constitutionally limited federal government should remember and celebrate that its limitations would necessarily cut both ways. Because if federal policy actually adhered to the letter of the Constitution, no single ideological camp could wield sufficient power to impose a set of beliefs on the entire country.

Which was exactly the point of our federalist system, and of the 10th Amendment. Beyond specific, enumerated federal powers, an infinite number of issues were intentionally left to the authority of the people through their state governments. And it is to the states that liberals, conservatives, and even libertarians must address all questions extending beyond the constitutional purview of federal authority.

  • Ind - I respect you for having a moral system you believe in, but your system of morality is not necessarily everyone else's. The Constitution was written to ENSURE that no one - including you - could force their version of government or morality on the entire country. That's the point of this video.

  • I agree whole heartedly the feds have put us into a position where we are ever increasingly at each others throats needlessly.

  • And then there is the state level of control. And each of the original 13 colonies has their own constitution. And in those constitutions and their amendments are laws that help keep order. Things that keep morals and keeps healthy livelihood. These laws ban gay marriage as it is plain wrong. In CT, you cannot by alcohol on Sunday. This is because it will effect you on Monday, and Sunday is a day to keep holy. CT was founded by Williams, he signed the act banning sale of alcohol on Sunday. Will

  • Lets take it one step back in the 'general welfare' clause that is often overlooked. The word just prior is *promote* not provide. Providing is on a state-by-state basis, am I wrong?

  • @fluffydanny We fought and lost that war. Remember?

  • @Ind1791 Maybe you should read your Bible again. Also, the First Amendment of the Constitution creates a wall of separation from church and state. I shall stone you for such ignorance.

  • One size does not fit all. States Rights!

  • “If some men are entitled by rights to products of the work of others, it means that those others being forced to provide are deprived of their rights and are condemned to slave labor. There can be no such thing as the right to enslave even for the welfare of others.” - Ayn Rand

Statist Progressives, Liberals, Socialists & Fascists (D & R) endorse Big Govt SLAVERY. The 50% who pay taxes are SLAVES to the 50% who don't & all are Slaves to the crony political class & their Oligarchy owners.

  • The bible was written by men.

  • Well said.

  • Too much partisanship does cloud a clear thinking process and the honest debate needed.

  • bertly - but I would also say that a large portion of liberals also need to wake up to the reasons why they too should be vehemently protesting. But, as with conservatives, neocons would be surprised how many liberals ARE severely disappointed and angry. In the end, is it any surprise that both dems and repubs are relegated to shrinking 20% ratios while independents claim a whopping 60%. Is America finally waking?? (now let's direct partisan venom at them instead of each other)
