A teaser for a coming video showing head gaskets on a 2003 6.0 liter Ford Powerstroke. Here's a view from each camera to compair. This video is showing the hardest head bolt to reach.

  • I was expecting a hard time with this bolt when I did my heads in cab, but I was using a 1/2" drive torque wrench and I was able to fold back the insulation on the firewall and my wrench fit on without a crows foot extension like you are using in this video. I was installing ARP studs, which now only require 210 ft-lbs with their new lubricant, so the 1/2" wrench worked fine.

Is this head bolt any more accessible on the 2007 F350 than on previous MYs?

  • @DuaneEBenson

They can be reached without this tool. Although this is not a crows foot wrench, but an extension to fit a 1/2 socket with a 3/4 breaker or ratchet. I have shown hot to do this with the cab off, so I am now creating a video to show the head gasket replacement with the cab on, just as you did. Although I used OEM head bolts and not studs. The head bolt clearance will be a little better due to the newer head design.

  • I posted a picture of the extended tool for reaching the rear head bolt on my Facebook tech page!

  • You are bad ass!

  • awesome tool!

  • What is the name of that extender tool? I want one.

  • GOD I can't believe you did this with the cab on. Kodak looks out of focus, but might just be the lower resolution.

  • Oh wow. Did you just do a head with cab on? I did my first one cab on back in the day when problems first started showing on the 6.0. Never again. Cab comes off everytime now.

  • I always thought the cab needed to be removed to get access to the heads. I was proven wrong haha Although, with the cab off it looks MUCH easier
