  • I saw this movie without any knowledge of japanese cinema, or Kurosawa, and I believe it was on TCM... The story was just so superbly made and articulated, and I was truly fascinated by this movie... I have since become a big fan of Japanese cinema, but this movie holds a special place in my soul, and I would love to see it in it's restored glory..

  • @Boudosaved Thank you they sound very interesting. I have seen and I like very much Tarkovsky, Bergman (The Seventh Seal is one of my very favorite movies), Bresson and Antonioni but I did not know about Teshigarha, I will definitely check this out. Yes you are right one could go on forever with the great movies that gave something unique and that is why it is not easy to mention just a few as "the best".

  • @tasgeo Well, this is not an easy question to answer. However, if you are into existentialism as expressed through the medium of film, or in particular Japanese film, I recommend the films of Hiroshi Teshigarha. Woman in the Dunes, Pitfall and The Face of Another. You may also delve into films by Andrei Tarkovsky, Ingmar Bergman, Robert Bresson, Michelangelo Antoninoi....(oh I could go on forever, but these are a good start).

  • @Boudosaved Hi, this is a very good question and even though it is not easy to mention two or three movies as the best or most important ever, I must say that there are some that make it to that category at least as far as dealing with the very core of human existence is concerned. Please check my answer below to @kbbryson where I had answered the same question. I mentioned "2001 A space Odyssey" and "Citizen Kane". I wish we had more space here to discuss about this further.

  • @tasgeo What are the other two or three?

  • There is nothing called absolute truth- It is how you percieve something that becomes your version of it, or what you and how you want to remember it!
