After standing in the cold for three days, I start my diesel Mercedes at about 2 degrees Centigrade.

  • Hi! Where did u get the pulse to the rpm gauge? I own a 200D W124 with big clock and want the rpm gauge to. :)

  • @mahmud4567890 From the alternator, but that is not original. For the W124 it is probably easier.

  • @michiel2006 Ah okey i have googled a lot and found out that the gauge takes the impulse from the alternators with the "W" and is fitted on many engines and theyre all matched against each other. The only Q is that if i need a amp in the middle

  • @mahmud4567890 For the W terminal you don't need an amp, but the tachometer needs to be suitable for W terminal operation. I bought mine on the internet from somebody who could modify a tachometer for W terminal. The official method uses a pickup on the crankshaft and a plug. Part number A1245420316 and wires for LHD A1245406708.

  • lol i tried out a jetta diesel today.. cold started it and i couldnt even see the glow plug light come on it was so quick, you might have a problem.

  • I don't have a problem, this is normal for an old diesel with old-style glow plugs. You cannot compare this with a modern diesel.

  • @michiel2006 Yeah and of course there is lots of kind glow plugs (speed glow plugs) and the normal ones spee glow plugs are more expencives

  • cobra :)) .. nice engine !!

  • Diesel cars are great, especially the old Mercedez.

  • The old ones has slower heat up time.

    I had a long 8.seats 300D -85.

I have had many old MB´s, but this one had easily the best engine of them all..

It always started, -20 or -30 degrees C, no problem. (No engine heater of course)

We had -42 once, and it almost started, but the battery inly lasted for one attempt, if I had another try with full battery power.. Maybe.. :)

    Loved that old car..

  • wow I watched this 1 year ago and posted a comment, I was going to post almost exactly the same comment again :)
