The College of Charleston recently launched the first Gulf Stream Oceanography (GUSTO) Program, aboard the SSV Corwith Cramer. This program is designed to educate undergraduate students in oceanography through their active participation in research at sea. The program begins with a 3-credit "Continental Shelf and Gulf Stream Oceanography" course, then students sail for 2 weeks on the 134' tall ship, collecting data and conducting analyses at sea. After the cruise, students complete their research (and earn an addition 4 credits for the course "Oceanographic Research") while living in Woods Hole, MA on the Sea Education Association campus. They present their results and write papers of their research. For more information, contact Dr. Gorka Sancho at sanchog@cofc.edu.
