  • This is a teaching sequence. Thank you for your eloquent and constructive criticism, and knowledge about how this has no merit.

  • See comment posted below to Raydee27-- This is classical, and is a teaching sequence. We are not delusional in thinking that this is how it will work in application. We know no one punches like this.

  • Two points here: 1)Opinions are welcome, although closed-end opinions offer no room for growth or learning. 2)We've all heard "the cup is full" metaphor. I will add, if the cup has a hole in it, should one pour anything into it? Who would want to teach someone who continually wails "I can't." All levels of success begin with this, "I CAN". Without this attitude the "How to" will not appear. MKG

  • ( Keep in mind I started out with Progressive Fighting Systems utilizing trapping, kali, and so forth )---I am sorry but if anyone wants to know how good they really are at trapping or destructions--Pull this off on someone throwing fast snapping jabs and everything that goes with it. Furthermore, absolutely no one is going to hold out their arm while you do any of those destructions. It just realistically does NOT happen. Some drills build good attribute but reality enters at some point.

  • @spr2682: I assume your comment is serious and you leave me in a dilema. What do I tell those people from various martial arts backgrounds that have had these destructions and traps done to them in live sessions by me and other students? For those that have it, speed kills;for those that don't have it, we give technique and training. The 3 together are a deadly combination and we enjoy pulling these off. If you can CONCEIVE IT and BELIEVE IT, YOU CAN ACHIEVE IT! It's YOUR reality. MKG

  • I just have to make a comment on the fellow who does not seem to appreciate the use of destructions. He states that jabs snap out fast and you will not catch it...The real point is that you KNOW where it is coming --for your face often times. Even if you miss the destruction on the point of the elbow it will bang off a forearm [hurt like hell] and now provideyou with a reference to continue entry. To dismiss them outright is just unrealistic.

  • @nilbymouse Trapping a Muay Thai guy requires heavy angulation and a clever setup. Marc Denny addresses this problem in the Kali Tudo™ DVDs. It's not easy, there's no question about it.

"Both of you Float your guard" Explain please.

  • @shinzu4001 don't need the gloves either- stance is too narrow, tall guy should stop trying to 'monkey' up and keep his chin away. (i love opponents that drop their chins like that I get to catch the early bus home) also the height difference means affecting any of the entries in a real life situation near impossible for the tall guy. both of you Float your guard.

for a jolly, try trapping a muay thai guy (I did once full contact) worked in the last round not in the first 2. Was joking earlier -

  • @darryl13245 Yes, silat does have grappling, but there is very little of it (that I know or have attempted) that I feel good about as a replacement for BJJ. That said, there are some nice transitions and variations that you can use from BJJ to set up a silat variation or two now and then. Silat is not sport based, so some of their counters are not easy to practice in a submission context.

  • @nilbymouse We were working leg shields against the Thai round kick before we shot this. Should we have taken them off just because there is no kicking in this sequence?

  • Another thing, to practice a skill you need to do things at a slower pace so as to make sure the technique is correct, to help muscle and mental memory, to not hurt the other person or yourself. This vid does look slower, he is a big and looks tired adding to the slowness

These limb destructions techs are just like any over MA techs in that you cant just use a tech. You need to make or wait for the opportunity. You may see the punch come or have to wait for a slower one or feint a puch etc etc.

  • As always people are quick to judge and think they know best, only seeing things from their own perpective. Many people say a martial isnt good or doesnt work without does considerder the histery. Many MA's have been round for 100's of years and used in situations such as war so to say it doesnt work is stupid otherwise it wouldnt of survived.granted that some techniques arnt as useful today due to environment (eg concrete)ect. but many still work very well

  • You guys are awesome. Thanks for sharing.

  • shin pads came in useful well worth the money

  • @mazilin2 What you do not understand, is that if you practice the same motions over and over, they become second nature to you. And once they become second nature to you, you can speed things up, you do not even have to think about it. Just ask some Tai Chi- practitioners. They might be moving slow in practice, but when they go to action, they can move really fast!
