SATURDAY X-FLARE: Behemoth sunspot unleashed another strong flare on Saturday morning--an X1.9-category blast at 0940 UT. The explosion produced a coronal mass ejection (CME) that might deliver a glancing blow to Earth's magnetic field in the days ahead.

Today at 4:45 pm CST in Galmey Missouri 65779 low in the northern sky (we had a beautiful blue sky day) I saw what I will go to my death believing to be Comet Elenin go by. It was the most beautiful thing I ever saw. It was about the size of twenty airlines and had a tail about 100x longer than the comet core. All of it showed up as pure white. It was traveling extremely fast

Hi Joe If you google "Earth blasted by one of the most intense geomagnetic storms seen in years" - this was supposed to have happened late yesterday. Do you know about this and should we all start building Faraday cages? Also how will this impact things knowing planetary alignments and state of the full moon over the next few days. We hv been warned that we will see exceptionately high tides here in Auckland NZ. Cheers for your thoughts.

Many people are preparing for such affects from solar activity with Faraday cages and bags. The current that flows from a CME can damage most electronics. I got some Faraday bags from techprotectbag,com. They are rated with a military specification so I think they will work.

Well, in Norway we were warned about complications due to this solar storm. We just lost all electric power 15 minutes ago. Gonna order pizza!! Thanks, Solar Watcher.

@JediaAssassin the closer we move to solar maximum(2013) the greater chance of a huge coronal mass ejection sent to the earth affecting our electrical systems. Odds are slim so i wouldn't bet on it happening

@InnateReality that "object" coming into view is the Pleiades star cluster, that video maker has absolutely no clue what he is talking about, complete disinformation, he does not know how to read the satellite images nor comprehend its field of view.

@stinkyoo there is not much of comet elenin left worth hitting, its not visible on the lasco C3 so i wouldnt worry about the comet at all.
