I just received a new instrument, have now set the bridge, tuned-up and need to test it. The octave mandolin gives you one octave below a standard mandolin. This is accomplished with a longer neck and thicker strings. One thing I immediately noticed is that I must fret with a lighter touch. If I press the strings too hard, they go sharp. After making that adjustment in technique, I find this instrument very enjoyable, both in tone and appearance.
Nice sound, though it'd be nice to see the fingerwork.
