Movie trailer for Toei Doga's fourth animated feature, Anju to Zushio-Maru. This movie is based on the Japanese story by Mori Ogai, and also the 1954 film by Kenji Mizoguchi. Anju is mostly a human-oriented drama, and quite tragic, too.
The Toei animators, however, came to hate this movie for endorsing, in their eyes, a submissive worldview, that the strong will always dominate, and that we should always obey our rulers who know what's best for us. It is during this time that relations between staff and the studio bosses deteriorate, leading to the formation of the Toei union. The struggle between labor and management will eventually culminate in Isao Takahata's revolutionary 1968 masterpiece, The Great Adventure of Horus, Prince of the Sun.
