i just downloaded the 3QuarterSet iPhone app today, which is a virtual set of uilleann pipe regulators made by michael eskin of tradlessons.com. i strapped the ipod to my leg with two belts and an extra pair of folded jeans (for height), and operate the app entirely with my wrist while playing the concertina.
i would have preferred to do more sophisticated and tasteful regulator work, but i am not good enough after one afternoon to be able to lift up my wrist and put it back down in the right spot, so it will be a while before i can do more interesting rhythms and offbeats. right now, however, i'm just excited to know i can play the concertina with my virtual regs!
this was very difficult, and required a lot of coordination, as the angle i had to get my wrist in order to reach the touch screen reduced my tonal control on the concertina. this is why i did not do any ornamentation and the notes don't have interesting shape, etc. i could have done chords but decided to let the regs do the talking, :-).
