I purchased this video. It is out of sequence. It shows some general officer leaving, then it shows him arriving afterwards.

Cam Ranh Bay should be made into a beach resort. Warm ocean water, white beach sand, good weather.  It could pull in billion$ of dollars in tourist money. I often thought about doing it after the war, I'd be friggin' rich, but...politics, funding, permits, etc.

@gallantrycross Very happy to read every word of your descriptions. I had the same experiences as you did. It seemed very confusing to know where the battle front line of war was and where the safer places behind battle lines. I enjoyed my duty tour there, I think it is a beautiful place I often miss and want to go back on a trip again. Thank you for bringing up lots of old memories of those days.

During all those years in Viatnam War, I was on duty tour of the first flight of joint tactical special operation squadron stationed in Nha-traam, very close to Cam Ranh Bay. We had to take all kinds of Viet com attacks and hazards of landing in all the air strips in remote mountain areas. Cam Ranh Bay was comparatively a safer base. But after missions carried out in leisure time, it was really wonderful as if on vacation there. Unforgettable experience.

I was there in 1970, assigned to the 834th Air Division. It was like a vacation resort. The guys did a great job building the place. --That's the way wars should be fought. We showed movies outside the Aerial Port on the side of the building. Saw John Wayne in "The Undefeated", sitting in bleachers. As soon as the movie ended the zipperheads sent in a barrage of 155mm rockets. It was extremely polite of them to wait until the movie had ended. How well-mannered they were.

We picked up our earth movers from there and later I stayed there TDY. My cousin was there and one of my best friends. We talked once in 3 or 4 months. Huge place. The pontoon bridge was cool.

When I first arrived, we were first in tents, then hootchs and when I left in 68 we were just moving into the nice white buildings... with a promise that there would be hot water showers... I was gone before it happened, but did receive word that it did happen...Von

I was part of the group that built the ammo dump in early 1966. We lived in tents and it was hot.

My dad was apart of the army expiditiary force that built that place. Thank him.
