The Missouri Department of Transportation's $245 million Interstate 29/35 Connections "kcICON" Project included the widening of 4.7 miles of highway from four to six lanes within Kansas City, Mo.'s most heavily traveled river crossing corridor. MoDOT and Paseo Corridor Constructors built a landmark, cable-stayed river bridge; reconstructed five interchanges (18 ramps); erected 12 land bridges; and constructed 2.04 miles of retaining walls and 0.7 miles of sound walls. The existing corridor remained open to the 102,000 daily users throughout the duration of construction. The project commenced with an April 18, 2008 ground breaking ceremony and was followed by the dedication of the Christopher S. Bond Bridge on Sept. 27, 2010. Major construction was completed when all interstate lanes and ramps opened Dec.18, 2010 — on budget and six months ahead of schedule.
