For off-roaders there is a gravel road that starts and ends basically in the same places but meanders throughout the hills much more than the Skyway as it used to be the wagon route over the mountains from the Cherokee village of Little Snowbird to the western Cherokee village of Chota near Tellico Plains, TN.

Would like to warn riders that the Tennessee side of the Cherohala has perfect radius turns while the North Carolina side has all increasing radius turns! Different design engineers I guess when the two states were building the road.

Interesting historical footnote, the Tennessee side was completed 30 years before the NC half.
