Whilst well run eco-tourism establishments bring essential income to delicate environments around the world, when tourism grows too big, the effects can be very damaging. Sharm el Sheikh in the Sinai peninsula, Egypt, is a town created solely through tourism. Thousands of visitors are bringing millions of dollars to the resort, but at what cost to the local environment?

it's definately a difficult balance - people will not value what they can't experience.

I do not agree totally with your vision: Ok massive tourism is ruining the coral barrier frontside the hotels, but the most importanti thing is to do not amplify the process opening new sites. I think is better a little part of barrier dedicated to mass tourism than all the barrier opened to people who doesn't know what the marine life is.
