Two Jeeps cross the coorong at salt creek in South Australia. The water is quite salty and is separated by only a thin piece of land to the open sea. What were we thinking!

  • No water entered the Jeep. It was stupid as we did not realise how salty the water was or how deep it was. But the Jeep has survived. Cost me a bit to replace the radiator, fan clutch and various other parts that deteriorated, but the body and chassis of the car have not rusted. The Jeep is now 8 years old and still purrs like a kitten.

  • How deep?

  • Probably averaged about 3 foot deep with some deeper parts and shallower parts.

Got a bit scary when the posts started to disappear with the depth as we did not know how deep it would be.

  • HEY good crossing i always do 42 mile then fish bout 2 ks north when i hit the beach wots the beach track like at salt creek are the gutters better for fish? still after first mulloway last trip (easter) missus got three undersize mulloway casted as far as i could piss couldn't beleive it .I got 1 ray!

  • Gutters are the best and deepest within the first 1km north of the Tea Tree crossing Fence. If you were casting as far as you could piss, I bet the wind was up again. That is the problem fishing those waters -wind always screws you.

Try Yalata grounds far west coast for real mulloway action!

  • hey m8 i got their all the time, as if u would cross it that deep. it would rust ur car to bits hope u washed it. Did u catch any mulloway or salmon or snapper

  • Pennspinfisher9500

I use an abu 7500 myself. We did not fish that time. My mate bought a 4wd and wanted to go 4wd'ing, so I initiated him there. Probably the biggest 4wd'ing thrill he will ever get. I prefer to get my Mully's at Yalata on the far west coast.
