Rather than review a game this week, I take a look at the multitude of different 3DO models instead. Which 3DO should someone trying to get into this lost world of gaming attempt to track down?

  • I loved my 3Do the F1 you could not delete save files form old games. Youhad to buy one of the demo disc that had a program to delete saves you no longer wanted.

  • @mp4podcastDOTcom True -- although these days you can just burn the demo disc iso to a CD-R and run the memory manager that way. :P

  • Omg, my sister used to have the old Panasonic XD So old school!

  • panasonic version was a sexy beast. it was the ferrari of consoles back in the day.

  • @Energyone yeah, i have the goldstar version too, and it works just fine after so many years...

  • why do you think the goldstar model is unreliable? :o

  • it actually has different and nicer animations when playing music cd's :) don't know about anything else but never had any problems with my model

  • Personally, I think the FZ-10 is the best. I have two friends that have a Goldstar and FZ-1. The Goldstar has huge problems with certain games (Crash N Burn, Casper etc) and often freezes. The FZ-1 is better but my friend has had a jammed CD drive about three times.

I've never had a problem with my FZ-10. When in doubt I think it is best to get a top-loaded since they tend to be more reliable. The only thing is that there's no headphone jack on its controller but I imported a FZ-1 controller.

  • My Goldstar couldn't play Samurai Showdown and Spacehulk was freezing very often.

  • Japanese units can be found for a good price on ebay, but the shipping is very high
