It's always been true: Microsoft has no taste. None.

Remember how janky Windows always looked compared to the Mac's GUI? Apple actually paid attention to design, composition, fonts, etc. Microsoft just went, "Oh, a GUI, well we can do that too! See?" Like a Gucci knockoff handbag: it looks just as good as the real thing -- from 20 yards away.

Still, I have to admit this ad goes beyond the usual MS lack of taste. They probably think it's clever and edgy. It just looks desperate to me.

I totally disagree. IE8 at least makes an attempt to comply with web standards that other, better browsers have complied with for years. Browsers like Firefox, Safari, and Opera.

IE6 and IE7? Both are slow and giant holes for malware to enter your computer with.
