Absolutely brilliant animation film by Yuri Norstein (USSR, 1979). In 2003 at Laputah Animation Festival in Tokyo 140 directors, artists and critics from all over the world called it the second best film of all times!

While we are on this subject, I'd have to say that I really hate it when groups of "experts" set about giving out different grades to works of art. I am sure people will never agree on what really is the best film of all times!

Thank you for this. I know there are loads of hidden meanings in this I don't get but i don't care, it's a masterpiece just the same. Eastern European animation is just unbelievable.
