Thank you for so eloquently covering additional topics that I ran out of room to address. I don't know if markv33's inaccurate remarks are simply a repeating of the same ignorant rhetoric teachers have been inflicted with for generations, or if they are byproducts of an unpleasant encounter he has had with a teacher. Either way, he needs to do some fact-checking, and I greatly appreciate your rebuttal of his teaching fantasyland.

Can you please tell me where to find this teaching fantasy job you describe? I'm obviously doing something wrong since, when you calculate time spent researching, preparing, differentiating, teaching, and grading (not to mention repeating these steps as necessary to reteach/reinforce), I literally make less than minimum wage. "Best health care options money can buy" . . . key words are "money can buy," which unfortunately I can't afford as a single parent on a teacher's salary . . .

We get paid accordingly. We are contracted from 7:40am to 4:00pm. I get to school at 7am and leave at 6pm. Our raises parallel most inflation rates. We spend a great deal of our own money to educate your children. There are teachers in my building who are unable to support their families on their salary alone. I couldn't do it without my husband, and we live conservatively. We must have a bachelor's degree at minimum. And you are dead wrong about our retirement. U get real!
