Do ferrets go wild and crazy when they are fed raw meat? Or is that just a myth?
Ferrets are very much like a cat or a dog, if they are well handled and trained then they should be nice and tame no matter what you feed them. Obviously if a ferret is not handled properly then it will be more likely to bite, so make sure you handle your fuzzy as much as possible to get him/her used to any situation. If a ferret is a biter, then it's not its fault...it's the fault of the owner!

  • My ferrets are a few years old and I have never fed raw before. If they don't take it what shoould I do?? Do I feed them a frozen mouse with fur? & how often??

-sorry lots of questions.. Thank you ! :)

  • @FerretsForDummies Never feed them a frozen mouse or rat, you have to defrost it completely before serving it to them. I normally take their other food away from them and just leave the carcass in their cage over night and normally by morning it is all gone. If your ferret eat it them feed it to them as often as you can :) Thanks - Stef

  • Hi love your Videos and am beginning to fall in love with Ferrets!

However as a member of the Scottish and Nfr Rat clubs I have a real problem Killing or buying pre killed Rats /mice/etc to fed ferrets, i know that in the wild these animals are their natural diet,

However were talking in the wild here,

if we can give our rats pre cooked meats and the equivalent ferret kibble Ie rat nuggets then surely its cruel and just encourages company's to breed animals purely as a food source,

  • @Rayrosher Hi thanks for your comment and sorry that you had to watch poor little ratties being fed. Unfortunately you have a choice of prekilled rats and mice or live. I prefer pre killed because I know that rats die quicker and with less pain that way. Also, do you eat meat? We already breed animals purely as a food source and there is nothing that anyone can do about it. Sorry mate, I need my ferrets to be healthy and they will not be just off kibble.

  • I am bringing home a 4 month old female kit tomorrow and have been watching your all of your videos, researching everything I possibly can before I bring home the sweet girl. I bought ferret kibble but I want to include meat into her diet. At such a young age is this okay? Also, I live in a very small town in the middle of nowhere, so the only way to purchase frozen mice or chicks is online. This is fine, but I'm wondering if there is a healthy store bought meat I for her age?

  • ive never gave my ferret a mouse too eat i never even thought they would eat it i think mine would make friends with the mouse dead or alive

  • I give my ferret meat but rarely raw and if its raw its a super healthy part.I love my ferret

  • No they don't I feed them bits of the rabbits I get with him.

  • @TSMYF1 naturally, the ones i adopted from former owners were not ever offered meat, so they don't recognize it as food.

  • most ferrets where i live are not meat eaters, they are given kibble. many american veterinarians scoff if you tell them the correct diet. i only had one ferret would i trained to hunt mice. the others absolutely hate meat in any form except in a baby food jar. fresh meat, raw or otherwise they turn their noses up and walk away.
