Byron Adams had a new story for police and prosecutors shortly after a Lee County jury convicted him of killing a Dixon woman in September 2009. The 54-year-old Chicago man told lead investigator Lt. Clay Whelan and Assistant State's Attorney Peter Buh that he had gone to Margaret Atherton's home on Sept. 11, 2009, to rob her. Further, Dixon Police Chief Danny Langloss told a group of reporters that police believe Adams went there to rape her.
