The elevation at the trailhead is at about 8,300', and the summit of the trail is at about 9,500'. This is the first of two sections of the descent. I suppose it is called the North Trail because it is located on the north side of I-70, opposite of the ski area. You can catch glimpses of the Vail ski area in the footage, as well as some of Beaver Creek, if you squint your eyes.
i built that trail! well at least the first 1 1/2 miles of it. i worked for the forest service in 1997 on the trail crew. it was built on the premise of being off road wheelchair accessible or vail wasnt going to approve the project. we built the trail base 40 inches wide expecting it to recede some so it would allow the 32 in. wheelbase of the chairs. the turn at 2:30 is where we started from, so from video start to there is what i built. backbreaking work but most gratifying to see it used
