@adiadv10 You are right... only it would be stronger closer contamination. At least there is an ocean between us and Japan. If Diablo canyon goes... it is so close. Makes me wonder at the coincidence of the name Diablo which means Devil. In the tarot cards...the Devil card represents self inflicted bondage. WE can be from nuclear and it's waste...it only takes will, education and leadership.

@kikkiokioli The problem in Japan was that at one reactor, they stored spent rods that shouldn't have been kept there. Nuclear has been one of the safest, cleanest, and cheapest energy sources, and until wind and solar show any future, no investment capital will go to develop them. This was the era of no nukes liberalism and The China Syndrome propaganda, and Dan hopped right on it. With a nice sounding song, of course.

@aquariancalendar We already are, in a sense, because fallout has a worldwide effect.

The point isn't if will happen again, it's when.

@Usee3D we've been off the grid for 12 years, our system paid for itself in 8, congratulations

@kikkiokioli We waste too much resources in this country...we don't need half of the energy that we waste. We don't run our society to make everyone as self sufficient as possible... oil companies and energy companys want customers for life..wage slaves...that spend their days working for the energy. I know how little energy the average family really needs..I lived off the power grid for 8 years with two kids in a passive and active solar house...so many houses since Reagan coulda been solar
32 years later and Three Mile Island is back in the news following the tsumani-induced Japanese nuclear disasters. I immediately thought of this song.
Worringly, the Japanese are probably the best nuclear managers on earth.

We better shut down those LA west coast plants or we will be in the same boat as Japan...except it will spread all over the US.
