Here are some pictures and videos of two of my male Betta smaragdinas (the pics and videos represent two separate fish). Smaragdinas have not yet been through the intense selective breeding as splendens and so most usually have the wild physical traits.

Distinguishing traits: the each gill plate has a few green scales (no bars).

  • your betta needs space in the middle..too much plants and big rockss

  • @TheMoua07

It does have a lot of open space (too much in fact) but I didn't show it. What I recorded was just one side of the 10 gallon tank. The other half of the tank looks like the video in my "wild Betta imbellis" video (it's the same tank with different fish). I use the same tank set-up when I spawn all my bettas - one half of the tank has lots of cover for the female to hide and the other half is open space.

  • you have wild bettas, so i am going to ask you about bettas and not those stuck up pricks who think bettas need stupid mansions which some of us cant afford, but in this video it looks like they have like 1 foot of water and the tank is huge, so here's my question, do bettas REALLY need all that uneccessary mass space and large amount of water to live happy and healthy in a tank? o.o

  • @DomSubmissiveKitty

I zoomed in on the camera and so that might make things look big as well as having lots of water. The tank is just a 10 gallon tank (if you want to call that a big tank then ok) with about water that's 5 inches high. To answer your question about bettas needing all that space, they don't really need lots of space and the water level shouldn't be too high either. Where ever you put your fish, if your betta is in a relaxed state, then it shows that it's comfortable.

  • @ntsees your wild beast doesn't look comfortable. seem like its stressed and wants to swin out in a wider space or someshit lol.

  • @bahok123

Lol, maybe I should have mentioned it, but the reason why it's all moving around like that is because I put a mirror on the side of the tank. He's trying to find that male that he saw (his own reflection). Before I put the mirror, he was slow and calm as bettas usually are.

  • @DomSubmissiveKitty could always do what i do, put him in a vase or just a cheap glass bowl you can find at a garage sale. :)

  • @ntsees thanks, i was getting alot of negativity from other betta vid commentors about what tank my betta Rio lives in, i plan to get a 2 gallon tank soon but for now he lives in a standard glass betta bowl. it takes alot of money just to get tanks for fish when you struggling just to find ur first job... ._.

  • Awwwww he's so cute :D I love his colors

  • @ntsees thanks.
