RARE RECORDING!! The Elgar violin concerto in B minor, Yehudi Menuhin in violin and Sir Edward Elgar himself conducted London symphony orchestra. They recorded one time together this concerto on 14th and 15th July 1932.
It's my favorite concerto:
1rst mvt: Allegro
2nd mvt: Andante
3rd mvt: Allegro molto-
4rth mvt: Cadenza accompagning by orchestra -Allegro molto

Sir Edward William Elgar, 1st Baronet, OM, GCVO (2 June 1857 23 February 1934) was an English Romantic composer. Several of his first major orchestral works, including the Enigma Variations and the Pomp and Circumstance Marches, were greeted with acclaim. He also composed oratorios, chamber music, symphonies, instrumental concertos, and songs. He was appointed Master of the King's Musick in 1924.

Yehudi Menuhin, Baron Menuhin, OM, KBE (April 22, 1916 March 12, 1999) was a violinist and conductor who spent most of his performing career in the United Kingdom. He was born a U.S. citizen, but became a citizen of Switzerland in 1970, and of the United Kingdom in 1985.

  • 3.5* for an unique recording, a wonderful concerto with his creator... hum... anvious maybe?

    Great.

  • @maxreger100 Have a listen to the old Albert Sammons recording that was recently posted on Youtube. It's fantastic as well (it was the first and many consider it still to be the best)

  • A thousand thanks to petrof4056 for posting a magnificent performance; one that showcases the boy/man, now 16.

I had only heard Heifetz play this. I much prefer this utterly moving rendition, at a time when Menuhin's technique was still entirely at his command.

Emotionally stunning. Nothing showy--his technique is in SERVICE to the music. How he achieved such maturity at such a young age is unfathomable.

  • Magical...infinitly magical...

  • i have the same recording on cd

the 2nd movement is LOVELY !
