Set to a pulsating score by Philip Glass, In the Upper Room is a signature work for Twyla Tharp, which contrasts the power and energy of modern dance with the speed and aerial dexterity of a more classical language.

  • Sometimes I hate how critical of dance I am. They are beautiful dancers and I love Houston Ballet, but man, they need to breathe together. It's almost a sin to dance Twyla's choreography and not be in unison when you're supposed to be.
