Ha! I found your video again and was reading my previous comments. Still sounds great. Have you experimented with different tubes, and did you experience any real sound differences? I havent tried different tubes yet but have been experimenting with different OD pedals with better results with my DSL. Havent been able to find a 1987x to actually try out. Was considering building a Weber clone of one though, just havent taken the plunge. Keep on rocking!

Great amp demo it's a fact these amps were designed to be used with pedals to color your sound.
Marshall came up with this amp idea after the lead guitarist from the band the Who requested that Jim Marshall design something that would be extreamly loud, so loud that Pete couldn't hear the audience screams.
The plexi style originally was a PA head tweeked a bit by adding two bridgable input channels. high & low. The rest followed the same wiring as their vintage PA head they no longer make.

cheers dude, i dont have the amp anymore im afraid, never changed the tubes either. had a dsl special edition, that was quite nice, trying to get hold of a jcm800 tbh, got an orange tiny terror at the mo which is incredible but not great for live use unless its miced up. need more volume!!

What speakers are in your cab?
I ended up getting a DSL50 and so far I'm not liking the tone. Marshall says it's supposed to sound like an 800 on one channel and a plexi on the other....I'm not hearing it. I should have gotten a 1987x. What do you think of your DSL?

@pedecamp
i really like my dsl -- but mines the special edition one which apparently has some different parts in it. wouldnt say it sounds anything like a plexi or a jcm 800 - its definately a more modern sound, not as open sounding as either of the others - altho if you use channel a with the crunch button in with the gain maxed - all of the eq set to 6, it sounds pretty nice, especially loud, sounds killer.
i had a standard dsl and hated it, very fizzy, but the special edition seems spot on
