The Tehri Dam of the Ganga is only one of 558 Dams planned for operation in the Uttaranchal region of the Himalayas. The cost of the Dam is huge in terms of the devastating holes that have been punched in the eco system. Few of the common people will escape being adversely effected by the dams and even fewer will benefit by them in any way as the power, typically only half of what is promised, is sent to the big cities like Delhi. I could not believe my eyes when I saw a dry river bed where the Sacred Ganga has flowed for at least 20 million years.

  • manoj makes an excellent point: how can a nation of 60 years destroy heritage of thousands of years? who gave them the mandate to do so? is this not treason committed by elected representatives against their own country? in the mahabharata, we had 100 kaurav vs. 5 pandavs. it is easy to guess who would have won the elections. even if a majority speaks a lie, does it become the truth?
