  • engl horn sounds diff than oboe. Are they really da same instrument physically.Only an octave lower but bassoon is totally diffeent sound!I guess.I wanna write orchestral music soI need to distinguish and feel the diff for writing music.Oh why didn't I take brass and woodwing classes when I has the oppurtunity!

  • English horn is in the key of F and has a rounder sound than the oboe, but the fingerings follow the same pattern as the oboe. Another cool instrument in the family is the oboe d'amore. That has a really interesting sound. I'll try to do a video about it one of these days. It looks like a mini English horn.

  • is the english horn also an octavelower than the oboe or just plays in a different key?

  • It's a fifth lower than the oboe, so it's in F.

  • I agree. It is very fun to play, but it is hard to stay in pitch. (Oboe)

  • what clef is that thing in? still treble like oboe? or diffrent clef?

  • it sounds like a basoon

  • i play oboe not base

  • Sounds like a tenoroon! This is quite amazing!

  • Really very interesting.

  • @hipepleful when you refer to the "contra bass bassoon" as you called it, it's actually a contrabassoon. The instrument already has bass in it's name.
