On August 30, 2008, trolleybuses were operated in Edmonton for the first time since June 18, when city council voted to phase out the system. The first weekday of service was September 2, 2008, with BBC's proudly running on routes 3, 120 and 135. This video is a celebration of the return of the trolleys; even though it is the beginning of the end for the BBC's.
Set to Astralflight's "You'll Be Here Too". Changed from original soundtrack due to YouTube copyright claim.

  • Those are Fishbowls!

  • Yep, the BBC trolleys were built with GMC "fishbowl" bodies.

  • The 133 should be back on trolley by the end of September. The wire has just been replaced on the Walterdale Bridge, and there's some paving work going on on 107 Ave between 142 and 156 St.

It's more likely that once trolleys are gone, the 120, 133 and 135 will all cease to exist, and be absorbed into the 1,5 and 7. The only reason the 135 exists is to reduce passenger counts on the 5, so they can claim that its not carrying as many people. The 120 only exists so that ETS can claim that they

  • are making full use of the wires, by having trolleys on the 102 Ave and Stadium wires. Once trolleys are gone, most of the 120 service will vanish, with the busiest trips added to the route 1 or 2 schedules. The 133 will likely get absorbed into the 7, which will run from Jasper Place to Downtown only.

Service in Belgravia and Parkallen will be provided by community shuttles linking with the LRT.

  • Trolley #132 is now running in Vancouver in the historical collection.

  • To me, it is still strange to see a fishbowl as a trolley. They were always an anti-trolley design!

  • I wonder if route 133 is returning to trolleys. If not, than the south side of the city will never see a trolley again. I predict than once trolleys are gone, route 120,133,135 will increase to a full day run. I think the only reason they're not is because they are trolley route and ETS doesn't like them.
