IFA 2010 could pretty easily have been renamed Tablet Land this year, with more slate-style devices around every corner than you could shake an iPad at. Picking up a fair bit of pre-show interest was ViewSonic's ViewPad 7. Tech Digest headed over to their stand to check it out, where ViewSonic's Derek Wright was more than happy to demo the device for us. Check it out in the video above.

Overall, the ViewPad 7 is looking pretty good. Though its a plastic build, it's well put together, and will hopefully keep costs low when it hits the shops. Capacitive response on the 7 inch display was fine, and though the 600MHz Snapdragon processor may sound a little underpowered, it had no problems whizzing through all the Android 2.2 features on display.

It's a pity there's no built in memory, so you're going to have to grab a decent microSD card to make the most of the ViewPad 7. You've also got phone-smarts inside for calls and texts, though like the Dell Streak its size means you're going to need a Bluetooth headset for this function to make any practical sense.

  • a very strong competitor for galaxy tab .. if the price is 100$ down of the galaxy tab I think I will prefer it .

  • It works smooth for a 600MHz CPU :)

  • @z900030 you can get a 10" one

  • 5inch, that the right size. Dell Streak beats this crap hands down.

    600MHZ??? are you kidding?

The standard now (2010) is 1Ghz. Or maybe it will sell for $100 US.

It sucks. 6,7,8 or 9 are awkward sizes, non-conforming for ANY device.

Human nature (your eyes and USA life style) dictates 3.5" to 5" for a mobile calling device or 10" and above for everything else.

I mean would you choose to watch a 1.5Hr to 3Hr or so movie on a 7" VS. a 46" to 55" screen (like your TV)?

  • its quite think, isnt it?
