Thomas Bay is known for glaciers, gold, and quartz deposits, moose, brown bears, black bears, wolves and birds. Nicknamed both "The Bay of Death," due to a massive landslide in 1750, and the "Devils Country" since 1900, when people claimed to have seen devil creatures in the area. It is also home to the Baird Glacier Trail which grants you access to stand atop the mile-wide Baird Glacier.
