Big Herkimer Diamond Pocket_Spring 2010

In the Fall of 2009, I spent my week at the claim uncovering the ledge on the edge of the hole, because the floor of the hole has been widened as much as possible and I needed room to grow. The walls of the hole were really limiting our progress downward into the next pocket layer. This Spring I returned to chisel out the ledge that I had uncovered in the Fall, and I broke into a very large pocket - but it had been emptied years ago by someone else!!! What a disappointment!!!! This Fall I will break through the ceiling of the pocket, and then through the floor of it, to get to the next layer of pockets... I think!

The only 'river' I've seen where it passes through the Herkimer Diamond pocket-bearing rock is the water running downhill between the old Ace of Diamonds mine and The Herkimer Diamond Development Corp properties. The water was OFF LIMITS to everyone, probably because the water exposes pockets, and digging in the river could divert the flow and cause big problems. Plus the property line was the river (I believe), and who wants to fight over ownership rights?

Show me some of that gravel!!! ☺

What about the rivers? You'd think they would be washed out naturally and easier to get? We have a lot here in Wisconsin in loose gravel.
