Bob Hallett
Founding member of the folk-rock group, Great Big Sea, Bob Hallett was born into a musical family in St. John's. Growing up, Hallett learned to play the accordion, fiddle and tin whistle. He's known as the most versatile member of this group, he founded back in 1993, with Sean McCann. Playing a mix of styles from bluegrass to folk, to rock, Great Big Sea has been very diligent in building a fan base that now stretches from Newfoundland and Labrador, to the United States and beyond. Great Big Sea has become a fixture on the Canadian musical scene, and are often featured at notable events such as the Winter Olympics and Canada Day festivities on Parliament Hill. Hallett, who writes his fair share of songs for the band, has also become a successful producer in his own right, lending his musical expertise to a number of other musical performers, and has authored several books including "Writing Out The Note: Life in Great Big Sea." Ken Rockburn spoke to Bob Hallett in Ottawa, while he was on a national tour with his band.
