I'm kind of curious to see if this works on other OSes as well. This uses perl to generate random numbers and then you just zoom out the window (command and minus) enough to get it be all smushed together. Then you drag the window open and voila! Static!
in Terminal (you don't have to be root, but I was to protect my identity):
type "perl" hit enter
type "while(true){print(rand());}"
hit control + D twice
@POKEMONMASTER260:Yeah, I know about Command Prompt. And you shouldn't need Cygwin, really.
You only have to find the right commands for the OS you're using. (in those 10 months, I learned a LOT about computers. Command Prompt is actually Windows's name for what Mac [I'm assuming you are using Mac] calls "Terminal")
Problem is, I don't think Command Prompt can zoom out... maybe you actually DO have to use Cygwyn and it's commands...

@ThePoketrix Terminal's on almost all kinds of operating systems... except Windows. If you want it on Windows, you need Cygwin. Unfortunately, as you can see in my above post, I tried it on a version of Cygwin & it didn't work...
Actually, Windows has something like the Terminal you may know about, the Command Prompt, but just like with anything from 1 OS to another, they're not the same...

Tested in Red Hat Cygwin, it generates that, "character storm," but does not turn into static...
