But surely likewise you also would have less to hold onto if the aggresser is not wearing a gi and all you've ever done is train against ppl wearing a gi. What u are saying makes sense about training both tho. I reckon in the future the gi will gradually become a thing of the past as Jiu Jitsu progresses

kobismellyman's point is good but u should learn both, because if you learn to escape a choke in a gi, then escaping a choke in plain clothes while sweating and having less for your opponent to grab onto, it will be easier.
