I teach (Brazilian) Portuguese at a public school, in the countryside of Sao Paulo State, in Brazil. I have 9 classes and my students are from 10 to 17 years old.

I hope these nonconstructive comments are not from members of the teaching community. She put herself out there with this video to model a strategy. We can acknowledge points for growth without tearing another teacher down, regardless of the fact that this is an anonymous forum.

I thought the teacher did some great things, but as the children are reading she should be taking anecdotal notes, listening in, finding praise points and teaching points. Guided reading helps us diagnose students needs and helps us decide what to teach to a particular child the next day. Just sitting there, not taking notes or interacting with the reader is not okay. Perhaps we didn't see everything she does in a guided reading lesson.
